Though she was able to manage full time teaching and freelance, she decided to commit to freelance full time in 2015. Pippins decided to return to school to be able to not just create art but also teach, earning a MFA from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University.Īfter graduating, Pippins taught college level design courses for many years, while simultaneously creating art. While working at TV Land in 2006, Pippins decided to start her blog “Fly.” It served as a way to showcase her work to a large audience, create community physically and virtually, and engage with other artists. After graduating, she worked for Hallmark in Kansas City, and TV Land and Nick at Nite in New York City. Pippins attended Temple University where she earned a BFA in graphic design.

Her interest in art and expressive culture-notably fabrics, fashion, and color-would later become themes in her work. Pippins recalls the days she spent at her mom’s worksite as being “immersed in creativity,” surrounded by patterns and buttons as she drew and colored. Her mother, who migrated from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, worked at a sewing studio in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Andrea lives in Stockholm, Sweden where you can often find her dancing in her living room with the samba music way up. She also produces digital and screen-printed artwork in which she explores color, pattern, and texture while interpreting her personal experiences as an African American woman.
